Students’ Achievement During the Covid 19 Pandemic
Students’ Achievement During the Covid 19 Pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in the year 2020 caused a significant global social and economic disruption, including the largest global recession since the Great Depression. Educational institutions including the various examination boards were affected and face-to-face music examinations were either suspended or postponed. Face-to-face lessons conducted in the studios were also disrupted due to the frequent prohibitions implemented by the Movement Control Order which restricts social activities including music lessons. This posed a lot of complications especially for students who plan to continue with their usual music lessons and also taking the music examinations.
With the assistance of technology, the normal face-to-face lessons were switched to online lessons. This has also prompted the various examination boards to introduce an alternative to the usual face-to-face examination, which was a continuous and simultaneous visual and audio recorded examination.
Students who planned to continue learning music had to endure the challenges that rose from the pandemic and online lessons such as being unable to attend regular face-to-face lessons, wearing face mask during lessons, physical distancing during lessons, limited face-to-face practising sessions, unstable internet connection, constricted recording time for the examination, unable to play with live accompanist due to social distancing, unpredictable extensions and lifting of the Movement Control Order.
Despite the challenges that the pandemic posed, the following students were determined to take up the challenges during the pandemic to continue with music lessons and took the newly introduced visual and audio recorded examination. Kester Music would like to commend them for their determination, effort and congratulate them for their achievement. At the same time, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to their parents for providing them the support and encouragement in their music education.
